Public Education Advocacy

Public Education will never be perfect but there are many things that students, teachers, parents, educational leaders, and others can do to make a difference at the local and jurisdictional (provincial) level.  I've provided some examples below to illustrate both issues and solutions.

Why is public education important? To start with, it is a binding agent that allows society to have common language and shared experiences.  This is the basis of an informed society -- young people capable of becoming active citizens and critically thinking adults.  One can be an active citizen and intelligent adult without compulsory education, but only if one has the means to access rich opportunities and caring guides.  The magic of public education is that if it is done reasonably well, it works for all -- wealthy, poor, disenfranchised, privileged and especially the masses in between.
