Note: There used to be hundreds of school districts in BC! In 1971 these were condensed into 74 districts, and in 1996 down to 60 through amalgamation. As a result, the school district numbers do not follow 1-60. Some BCTF union locals in the amalgamated districts did not amalgamate and remain independent to this day (with some controversy), while others chose to amalgamate but retain their separate identity as sub-locals of the BCTF.
